North Toronto Gets the Jump on Spring

Mary Ann Ankenman, Don and Lily Cockburn
and Julie Forbes helped gardeners to
Get the Jump on Spring
The annual Get the Jump on Spring event at the Toronto Botanical Garden on February 19th inspired hope in even the most winter-weary gardener.  The fragrance alone was enough to kick-start garden dreams for the season ahead.

The North Toronto Horticultural Society was well represented.   The golden blooms of forsythia (forced with impeccable timing by Financial Support Director Cathy Kuchynski) welcomed visitors to the North Toronto table.  Julie Forbes had a wide selection of plants available for sale as well as some of her expertly crafted aprons.  Many members popped by the table to renew their memberships.   Welcome back.  We are so glad to have you.

As always, Mary Audia and Julie Forbes dominated in the floral design competitions.  Here's a look at some of their beautiful designs:

For the Love of Roses

Rose Garden on the Canadian
National Exhibition grounds

March Meeting
Tuesday March 8, 2011
Annual Photography Show
Topic:  Growing Roses Organically
Speaker:  Shari-Lyn Safir

Growing roses doesn’t have to mean spraying chemicals to control pests and disease. There’s a healthier, earth-friendly way to grow the queen of flowers.  Shari-Lyn Safir will share the secrets to success.

After the speaker, prepare to be wowed by the photography skills of North Toronto members.  Whether in far-away places or in their very own backyards, North Toronto members will prove yet again that they are as comfortable behind the camera as they are in the garden.
